Remove Shaking From Video Footage

Posted by matt on Wed, 14/03/2007 - 3:07pm in

Digital video cameras are great for grabbing footage of your favorite sporting events, social functions or whatever - but there's one thing that usually spoils it... amateur shaky video syndrome.

Well not anymore! Now we've got a free tool in our Virtualdub library which can eliminate all of the shaking in our video footage.

The Deshaker filter for Virtualdub is a free open source plugin, which allows you to remove the shaking of your video footage to whatever degree you'd like. It's quite amazing how well even the default settings work, though to make it appear totally seamless you will need to familiarize yourself with some of the settings, and tweak each video you work on a little bit.

It's even capable of removing the motion of walking from video footage, so it appears to glide. Amazing.
