MSN adCenter - Rejected Keywords

Posted by matt on Fri, 19/01/2007 - 4:10pm in

What timing! Shortly after I posted my previous adCenter update, I got an automated email from MSN saying some of my keywords had been rejected.

There are numerous reasons that keywords can be rejected, I believe either by automatic screening, or by staff review. These reasons can include things such as objectionable content on your pages, or even lack of relevance between the ad copy, and the page copy.

During my testing of adCenter, until now I've only seen a few of the "lack of relevance" type rejections, while targeting obscure misspellings of my keywords. I wasn't overly concerned with that, as it was a quick clarification of how their system requires page content to be similar to the ad involved.

This time however, is more annoying, as my keywords had been running fine on my "general" landpingpage, and it was only when I moved them over to the targeted landingpage which I had setup that they were rejected.

When I click the keywords in adCenter to view the reason, it simply stated:

Website contains forbidden content - Content guidelines

There was no indication of which of the content guidelines I had supposedly contravened.

This keyword rejection came as quite a surprise to me, as I certainly have tried to create totally above board, and legitimate landingpages and ad campaigns, so I'm currently at a total loss as to why they've been canned.

I have put through an appeal to the MSN adCenter support email via their online form, and also posted over on Digitalpoint to see if anyone else can suggest to me why this may have occurred now.

I'm hoping to get a response before the weekend, though at this late stage in the week that probably won't happen if my past experiences of online support is anything to go by.

If anyone can shed some light on this for me, I'd really appreciate any comments or suggestions.
